Terrence M. Floyd
President/Founder/Brother of George Floyd
Born in November of 1977 in Harlem NY, Brooklyn raised. Terrence started We Are Floyd, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the life of George Floyd through community service and providing young people hope for the future.
Terrence navigates through the issues surrounding social justice and violence in communities, he says “I will talk where my brother can’t talk no more, walk where my brother can’t walk no more and love where my brother can’t love no more” Since his brother’s tragic death, he has served as a tireless community leader and grassroots organizer, sharing a message of the importance of unity, civil and human rights.
Terrence poignantly moves audiences with his brother’s story and inspires younger generations from Elementary Schools to Colleges to make a difference, know their worth, and realize they too have a voice and a purpose that needs to be expressed.
Douglas L. Washington
Vice President
Born on April 18, 1978, in Brooklyn, New York, has carved out a notable career in the sanitation industry and labor union leadership. With over 20 years of experience in private sanitation, he spent 15 of those years as a shop steward and organizer within the Teamsters union. His dedication to advocating for workers’ rights led him to the position of Executive Trustee of Teamsters Local 813. Currently, he is employed by the Department of Sanitation of the City of New York, continuing his commitment to public service. Alongside his professional career, Washington is an entrepreneur, owning TrueCreativeHealth, a company focused on providing all-natural health products, with aspirations to offer naturopathic and physical therapy services.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Washington serves as the President of the Washington Family Corp, a family trust company, demonstrating his dedication to family and financial planning. Married with one son from previous marriage, one stepson, one stepdaughter and two step-grandchildren, he balances his work with a strong focus on family values. His career and entrepreneurial activities reflect a blend of public service, union leadership, and business acumen, showcasing his diverse contributions to both his community and family.
Margaret Carson
Treasurer
She is a New York native, woman of integrity and wisdom. She a retired Secretary, with over 30 years of experience in General Motors’ Investors Relations Department. She serviced on her Church’s Trustee Board and has built a reputation for her strong ethical values and sound judgment. As Treasurer of We Are Floyd, she remains deeply committed to her community, actively working to help young men and women achieve their life goals, Mentally/Physically and most importantly Spiritually. Her dedication is not only admirable and inspiring but also a crucial element in the ongoing effort to better our communities. Margaret’s unwavering principles and insightful guidance makes her a beacon of hope and a steadfast leader in today’s world.
Tani Gurkova

As the Founder, President, and Executive Director of Steps With Sisters, this journey embodies a commitment to service, leadership, and community empowerment. With a professional trajectory spanning diverse sectors and educational accomplishments from prestigious institutions, she brings a unique blend of experience and expertise to our organization.
Tani’s foundation in academia includes earning a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Tennessee State University. These years equipped her with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate complex organizational landscapes. Her professional journey began on Wall Street, where she served as an Executive Assistant, collaborating closely with Presidents in high-pressure environments. Using the ability to manage multifaceted tasks, prioritize effectively, and navigate intricate corporate dynamics. Subsequently, her tenure in NBA security and investigations further sharpened my problem-solving abilities and instilled a sense of vigilance. Transitioning to the legal sphere, Tani embraced the challenges of supporting legal executives and engaging in investigations at prominent law firms in Manhattan and Suffern, NY.
These experiences deepened my understanding of legal frameworks, compliance, and the importance of meticulous attention to detail. Drawing upon her corporate background, she embarked on a new chapter as the CEO of Alexander Service Corp. Honing the leadership style and operational acumen. This role afforded her the opportunity to spearhead strategic initiatives, nurture talent, and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration. In the capacity as Founder and Executive Director of Steps With Sisters, Inc. nonprofit, Tani has the responsibility of shaping our organizational vision and directing our day-to-day operations. Her leadership philosophy is grounded in a commitment to transparency, integrity, and inclusivity. Central to our organizational ethos is a relentless pursuit of excellence and impact. Leveraging my corporate experience, she implements systems and processes to streamline operations, maximize efficiency and formulating strategic partnerships, allocating resources, or mitigating risks. Her leadership style is characterized by a hands-on approach and a willingness to lead by example. She actively engages with our board members, offering mentorship to our volunteers, and support to unlock their full potential. Empowering individuals to thrive within our organization is not just a priority—it’s a core tenet of our organizational culture. Tani is actively a member and guest speaker of various organizations such as; Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, (NGO/CSW) Non Governmental Organization/ Committee on the Status of Women, United Nations, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) certified, (AACEO) African American Clergy Elected Officials, Women Empowered NYC, National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brooklyn Community Foundation, Women Empowered of Antioch Baptist Church, National Action Network (NAN), New York Notary, and a previous Executive Board Member of Lions Club (District 161), and Umoja Community Garden. She often volunteers to feed the homeless, gather and deliver home items to families in need, and generate wills & estate planning for seniors (pro bono) in the community.
Sean Williams

He is the Co-founder of OSD (Obsessive Sneaker Disorder) along with long-time friend Dee Wells. As a business partner in OSD, LLC Sean’s love of sneakers has transformed into a mission for the company that has 3 words “Appreciate, Educate, Elevate”. Those 3 words are a part of everything Sean does in regard to the world of sneakers. He has accepted the personal mission of making sure that the younger generations know the potential that exists for them in the athletic footwear business as not only consumers, but as the future professionals in the industry. Sean has been featured in various noteworthy TV shows, publications and web sites such as NBC’s “The Today Show”, Maxim magazine, Slate.com, and Sneaker Freaker just to name a few. In 2012, Sean and his partner Dee made the list of “50 Most Influential People in Sneakers Right Now” published by Complex magazine. In 2018, Sean became a Rankin Scholar at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. The first such honor ever bestowed upon someone in sneaker culture. In 2019, Sean made history as Co-curator of the first Hip-Hop apparel and sneaker exhibition at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. In 88 days of residency the exhibition amassed foot traffic and exposure to 9.8 million people. In 2020, Business Insider added Sean to the “Power List: 28 Most Outstanding People of Color Transforming the Sneaker Industry”. In 2023, Sean was the Co-Founder of the newly established SOLEcial Studies CommUNITY Academy in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn. Now in 2024, Sean was a recent recipient of an Anthem Award for his sneaker education work in Paris, France.

Ashley Sharpton
Media/Public Relations/Community Organizing/ Strategy Advisory
She is a distinguished activist, community organizer, and media entrepreneur. Born to renowned civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton and Dr. Kathy Jordan Sharpton, she is also the younger sibling of Dominique Sharpton-Bright. Graduating with honors from Poly Prep Country Day School in 2005, Ashley pursued sociology at Hampton University, earning multiple scholarships.In 2006, Ashley founded Sharpton Entertainment LLC (formerly Harl3m Ink), specializing in showcase production, promotions, and social media services. Her Harlem summer showcase, established in 2011, became a prominent local platform for emerging talent in music/fashion/entertainment, featuring artists like Teyana Taylor and ASAP Ferg.Ashley’s foray into social media and activism began in 2013 when she became the Director of Social Media Communications at Massenburg Media. She played a pivotal role in reshaping the online presence of R&B singer Joe and Massenburg Media. Subsequently, she joined Rev. Sharpton’s team, expanding his personal and radio show’s social network presence, as well as greatly expanding the digital footprint of Rev. Sharpton’s civil rights organization, National Action Network (NAN).
Passionate about social justice, Ashley actively engaged in various initiatives, including serving as a live social media commentator during President Obama’s State of The Union addresses. She played a key role in mobilizing youth at NAN in the fight for justice, addressing issues like police reform in her organizing efforts with NAN supporting countless families from the family of Trayvon Martin in 2012 to the family of George Floyd in 2020 to the family of Tyre Nichols in 2023. Arrested in 2017 for civil disobedience in front of Trump Tower to helping to organize thousands of young people from around the country at the 2023 Continuation March on Washington, Ashley remains dedicated to resistance against unjust policies.
Recognizing the importance of mentorship, she founded “The Huddle” in 2013, a platform empowering the youth to become leaders of tomorrow. The initiative focuses on positive peer pressure, addressing societal influences, and fostering faith based development. Since 2013, NAN’s Youth Huddle under Ashley’s leadership expanded its mission to include voter engagement, census turnout, anti-gun violence efforts, non violent advocacy 101 training, college fairs, performing arts hubs, student financial support, civil disobedience, public speaking training, and career pipelines for urban communities.
A God-fearing woman, Ashley coined the slogan “We weren’t born extraordinary to be ordinary, Be the Extra!” Her vision extends to establishing Youth Huddle Arts, Civic, and Tech Centers nationwide, reflecting her commitment to nurturing the potential of the next generation.
